Oh and if you dont believe its true about the cd-rom part of the 16-bit soundcard.
I know that back in the days they used those loose cd-rom paddle card boards.
They where produced (i said earlier) there wasnt not enought bandwith on a 8-bit soundcard (thats why an 8-bit soundcard came with an cd-rom interface controller.
So you just connected the cd-rom drive to the paddle board.. And loop it with the 8-bit soundcard (the sound cable from the drive to de paddle board *also the interface connector. Mostly you had to loop it on the backside of the case from (with a 3.5 stereo jack) from the output of the paddle card to the in line from the sound card.

Why this is a 16-bit card is because it needs to, to make access to the cd-rom part of the card..When the card was 8-bit, there wasnt enought bandwith to drive the cd-rom controller.. So you see that 8-bit sound cards wherent capable to have a cd-rom section to drive a cd-rom drive. I think that this Protac card was some later soundblaster clone when the soundblaster pro 1 was mainstrain.. Because de SB PRO 1 had only one interface connector to drive its own proparity cd-rom drive. After that clone manufacturers came with there own cheaper versions to the market that support most other proparity drive to like sony, mitsumi.. Sony was the first on the market, after that panasonic came.. I knew that most drives used then where actually panasonic driven.
The more cheaper drives where housed with a mitsumi proparity controller..

      Hallo,
