Miss Melody (ESS Audiodrive 688 / ES688)

I just searched for the ES688 drivers on Google. Found configuration program for DOS, Win 3.1/95/NT & OS/2 drivers but didn’t find the MPU-401 driver for DOS. Does it exist, or is MPU-401 emulation available only in Windows?

      Hey Ivan,
I didn’t write that anything is wrong with the MPU-401 driver, but the fact that you even need a driver that stays in the memory doesn’t make this card attractive over others to use it with wavetable daughterboards.
IIRC the MPU-401 is also available in DOS. But the floppy got CRC-errors so I cannot check this. There were the drivers for DOS and Win3x and some apps like a talking clock and the infamous Audiodrive Rack. Regarding the MPU-401 driver I will have a look in the original manual when I find some time for this.

      Greetings
      Fabian

What’s wrong with MPU-401 DOS driver for this card? Compatibility problems? Did you try it with games that support MT-32/General MIDI?

I have similar card based on ES688 chip and was looking forward to test it.

I’m very interested in contents of that diskette by the card. When you have time, could you copy & e-mail it to me? I would be very grateful 🙂
